Dioralyte how does it work
Severe diarrhoea can cause debilitating pain and suffering for many patients. With the fast depletion of bodily fluids and electrolytes, the body is left susceptible to sickness and infection.
But with the aid of Dioralyte, all the lost electrolytes and fluids are easily replenished and absorbed in the intestine. To use Dioralyte, have the contents of the sachet dissolve in ml of water.
Adult and children 5 years of age and up can use fresh tap water for this. Pediatric patients aged one year and below can use distilled water in dissolving Dioralyte solution. Do not try to dissolve the solution in other liquid except water. Always make sure to use at least ml of water to dissolve the contents of Dioralyte. Do not make a solution with more or less water than recommended by your doctor.
The solution must not be made immediately prior to using, and it must be used within an hour after dissolving in water. If using it on babies or patients under one year old, you may refrigerate the remaining solution and administer the remaining solution within a 24 hour period.
Dispose of the remains properly after using. For adult patients including elderly, take sachets of Dioralyte dissolved in water after each bowel movement. Children aged two years and more can be given 1 sachet of Dioralyte dissolved in water after each bowel movement. Pediatric patients under two years of age will be given the Dioralyte solution based on their body weight.
Always use exactly ml to dissolve the contents of each sachet. Don't use more or less water than this, as this will make the solution too strong or too weak and can upset the balance of salts in your body.
Dioralyte solution should be made up immediately before use and used within one hour. If you don't use it within one hour for instance if you're giving it to a baby over the course of the day you should keep it in a fridge, in which case it may be kept for up to 24 hours.
