How does boosterthon work
Historically elementary schools raised money by either holding a product fundraiser or holding an event like a school carnival. Over the years both produced decent results but there was a definite downside to each option. Product fundraisers started to produce diminishing results nearly 10 years ago and little has changed since. As for the carnivals, the volunteer time commitment and resources simply became unbearable as more parents went to work and schools found themselves with few volunteers to handle increasing requirements.
Both companies were created by people who recognized that there was a problem with elementary school fundraising. Both felt like they had a better idea. The fact is that both are better than product fundraisers and carnivals as far as the amount of money a school, PTA or PTO can raise.
But they are as different as night and day. One of the most notable differences between the two companies is the percentage of donations paid to the company instead of your school or group. Now there are good reasons why Boosterthon is more expensive.
For one, they are on campus, and, for the most part, they run your fundraiser. But Read-a-thon produces similar results and charges a whole lot less. Both companies have the same theory. Basically we believe that people are happy to support a child who participates in a self improvement program or project. Boosterthon focuses on physical activity. Think Fun Run. Others have a less sanguine view. In many schools, these lessons are presented during class time, which some have criticized as salesmanship education under the guise of character education.
Some school districts have enacted regulations prohibiting in-school fundraising efforts that conflict with instructional programs. In those schools, the lessons are often presented during homeroom time. Faith Boninger, a research associate at the National Education Policy Center and part of its Commercialism in Education Research Unit, sees this as a threat to the integrity of education.
Her work focuses on the impact of commercial activities in schools and the pernicious rise of schoolhouse commercialism. Boosterthon and Apex defend their character education programs as a minimal time suck, accounting for less than two hours over the course of the school year, and say the programs are designed with input from stakeholders.
The Character. If you have any other questions you can send me a private message. Thanks for the response but how did you feel about them taking so much of your profit? How did the teachers feel about the classroom interrruption everyday? They took less than Sally Foster took in the fall. Plus with Sally Foster cookie dough we had to unload, sort, wait for parents to pick up, find places for dough that was not picked up.
It honestly took 5 minutes or less in each class we walked with the Boosterthon Team everyday. The Principal and the Superintendant were in a class when the team was there and they were quite impressed with how they handle everything.
If the timing isn't right for a teacher then the Team asks when is a good time and goes back. It was great for us. We are looking forward to seeing them again next year! If you want me to send you pictures I'd be more than hapy to. Let me know if you have any other questions.
