How much data can i put on a dvd

How much data can be written to a 4. Hi All, I produced two coasters while trying to backup files from my harddrive. To minimise the number of disks I have to burn I tried to get each disk as close to full as possible. I figured this was around 4. I removed some files and was now 11MB under. Anyway, the write seemed fine, the buffer never got low. When verifying the two failed disks, each of which contained the same set of files, the verify failures started on the same file about half way through the set.

Both disks seemed to be corrupted in the same way. I managed to get a working disk by removing another 30MB of files. I don't know where in the image they would have ended up.

What I'm wondering about is did I attempt to put too much data on the disk. Roxio's Disk Information stated that there were free sectors MB on the blank disc. The amount of data that I was failing to write was more like 4,,, bytes which is under. Is my maths wrong? Are there error-correction sectors that have to be written but aren't accounted for, or possibly bad sectors that need to be mapped out but can't be due to a full disk, or anything along those lines?

If I did put too much data on the disk, what is the correct limit? Much appreciate any insight anyone can provide. All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Develop and improve products.
